Maldives Customs Service has successfully intercepted a significant quantity of narcotics attempted to be smuggled into the Maldives via sea.
According to Customs, the seizure took place on July 27, at the Male’ Commercial Harbor. Upon conducting a forensic analysis of the confiscated substances, the items tested positive for Methamphetamine.
The total weight of the seized drugs is recorded at 2,231 grams (over 2.2 kilograms). Customs estimates the street value of these narcotics to be approximately MVR 4.4 million.
The confiscated drugs have been officially handed over to the Maldives Police Service for further investigation and to apprehend those involved in the smuggling attempt.
As part of the administration of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking, the Maldives Customs Service remains vigilant in monitoring the nation’s borders and strengthening measures to prevent the entry of illegal substances into the country.
